The International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP) is a biennial seminar organized by the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. ICIAP has been an excellent hub for exchanging knowledge about the most recent advancements, research findings, and best practices on a range of topics relevant to architecture, planning, and other related disciplines.

The previous conference in 2024, the 7th ICIAP was conducted under the theme of “FUTURE LIVING- Reimagining Holistic Sustainable Built Environment”. Planning and architectural design is inherently about looking ahead. There is a need to reconceptualize the idea of sustainability to enable more future-oriented interventions around architecture and urban/regional planning while addressing the current development problems.

The 8th ICIAP will delve into the concept of “Collaborative Wisdom: Creating Flourishing Futures” explores how collective intelligence, shared values, and interdisciplinary cooperation can shape a more sustainable, equitable, and thriving world. In an era defined by rapid change and complex global challenges, no single discipline, organization, or individual holds all the answers. This conference invites thought leaders, practitioners, and changemakers from diverse sectors to co-create new paradigms of leadership, innovation, and community resilience.

Through keynote presentations, interactive panels, and hands-on workshops, participants will delve into the principles and practices of collaborative wisdom—how we listen, learn, and act together to design flourishing futures. Prospective authors are kindly encouraged to contribute and submit papers related to the theme, with the following topics but not limited to:

  1. 1. Architectural design

  2. 2. Building technology

  3. 3. Heritage and conservation

  4. 4. Settlement and housing

  5. 5. Urban planning and design

  6. 6. Regional planning and development

Join us in cultivating the mindset and momentum needed to move beyond siloed approaches—toward a future that works for all.
