The 7th International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP)

“FUTURE LIVING- Reimagining Holistic Sustainable Built Environment"

The International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP) is a biennial seminar organized by the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. ICIAP has been an excellent hub for exchanging knowledge about the most recent advancements, research findings, and best practices on a range of topics relevant to architecture, planning, and other related disciplines.

The previous conference in 2022, the 6th ICIAP was conducted under the theme of “Beyond Sustainability in Design, Planning, and Innovation”. The conference focused on discussing challenges and opportunities for sustainability which often triggers innovation in the first place and its effects on architecture, planning, and governance. The conference was successfully bringing together experts from architects, urban planners, researchers, industries, government regulators, as well as students from all over the world.

This year, the 7th ICIAP will delve into the concept of “Future Living: Reimagining Holistic Sustainable Built Environment”. Planning and architectural design is inherently about looking ahead. The future orientation is crucial given the challenges confronted in this era of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). Hence, there is a need to reconceptualize the idea of sustainability to enable more future-oriented interventions around architecture and urban/regional planning while addressing the current development problems.

Prospective authors are kindly encouraged to contribute and submit papers related to the theme, with the following specific topics but not limited to:

  1. Reimagining Holistic Sustainable Urban and Regional Development;
