Prof. Dr. Hitoshi Nakamura

Hitoshi NAKAMURA is a Professor of Urban and Regional Planning and Vice President at Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on urban resilience, community-based planning, and disaster risk reduction, with particular attention to the role of local governance and citizen participation in creating sustainable and resilient cities. He has been actively involved in education and research that bridge academic knowledge and real-world practice, including project-based learning and collaborations with local communities and public organizations. 

Professor Nakamura has supervised and mentored students in interdisciplinary settings, encouraging them to engage with complex urban challenges through both analytical and participatory approaches. His work contributes to advancing planning theory and practice in the context of contemporary urban issues, such as climate-related risks and community resilience. Through teaching, research, and community engagement, he aims to foster the next generation of urban planners and researchers.
