6th International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP) 2022

“Beyond Sustainability in Design, Planning, and Innovation”

In a world characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) due to climate crisis and complexities in the urban system, sustainability is a key issue for allowing flexible intervention and management around architecture and planning. The process of achieving sustainability has not been easy as COVID-19 highlighted critical deficiencies in our built environment and urban design. These complexities necessitate innovative approaches, methodologies, and concepts beyond sustainability which can incorporate and utilize the inherent potentials of human and environmental transformation. This could support architects, urban designers, and urban and regional planners in implementing actions and commitments in achieving sustainability and managing transformation in a variety of ways. The previous conference in 2020, the 5th International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP), explored the idea of ‘Complexity: Design, Planning, and Innovation’ which explored how complexity in design and planning could be managed to result effective and innovative solutions for the ever-evolving world.

In 2022, the 6th ICIAP will be conducted under the theme of “Beyond Sustainability in Design, Planning, and Innovation”. The conference will also allow participants to discuss challenges and opportunities for sustainability which often triggers innovation at the first place and its effects on architecture, planning, and the governance.

Prospective authors are kindly encouraged to contribute and submit papers related to the theme, with the following specific topics but not limited to: (1) Beyond Sustainable Urban and Regional Development; (2) Beyond Sustainable Architectural Design; (3) Innovations for Sustainability; (4) Responsive Environment; and (5) Challenges for Sustainability.
